Andy Detskas - Interactive design, development, direction

About the work

I've been designing and leading interface development projects since 2000. My designs often come out very different from one another, I think this is because I see design as situational. The design process for me begins on paper, then it progresses into Photoshop, Illustrator or Flash before being hand-coded into xhtml and css. Once the code has been validated and looks good in Browsercam, I generally use a CMS of some sort - my preference being Expression Engine (which this site proudly runs on) although Wordpress, TextPattern, and Typo3 are familiar to me. Many of the projects shown here were done in the "design for community and learning" space but over the past year I've yearned to extend my work into the realm of entertainment and e-commerce.

About the worker

After receiving a BFA in photography from Siena Heights University in 1998, I went on to the Cranbrook Academy of Art and received a MFA two years later. I now reside in Chicago, Illinois working as an interactive design director for 4sight Communications. I am very much attracted to information aesthetics, mid-century modernism, and decorative art. I can almost always be found with a camera on me documenting and capturing my surroundings. Current muses include to Aesthetic Apparatus, Heads of State, and Mopeds.
